Cleaning, it is one of those necessary things. Even if we do not think we are doing housework, we do dishes, wash our clothes, pick up our home, and tidy our workplace. It is a necessity, whether we choose to use green cleaning products and techniques or not. A common myth is that if some is good, more is better. Unfortunately that is just a myth. In fact less is more.
Assuming more soap or detergent equals more cleaning power yields results that are not only wasteful, but will increase costs unnecessarily.
It is a common misconception that the dirtier something is, the more soap it needs. It seems to make sense, more dirt needs more soap. In reality, while soaps and detergents are great, however, too much of a good thing can create its own problems. It is tempting to add more ‘cleaning power’ for a bigger job. Do not because whenever excess soap is not rinsed away, it is going to leave a sticky film that will only attract more dirt and grime. Yep, too much of a good thing is possible.
Perhaps some other examples in life where too much of a good thing will help cement this concept. A nice cold beer on a hot summer day is good, too much beer is not. Water is another example. Some rain helps the plants; too much causes floods! Are you a beach lover? Sand creates the beach. Too much sand, however, is a desert.
Think about it, both washing machines and laundry detergent have gotten much more efficient and effective in the past few decades — so why are we using the same amount of soap? Habit. It might not seem like a big deal, but using the appropriate amount of laundry detergent for a load will extend the life of the washer, as well as the clothes.
This is also prevalent with carpet cleaning. If all of the cleaning residue is not removed from carpets during the process, then it makes it much more likely that dirt will stick to the carpet surface, causing it to become prematurely dingy.
Same thing with dishwashers. Too much detergent can cause over-sudsing resulting in damage to the dishes, as well as the machine itself – over the long term. Too much detergent use is one of the most common reasons dishwashers require repair.
Too much soap will ultimately lead to buildup. Follow the directions. They are provided for a reason.
Furthermore green cleaning products usually come highly concentrated. In other words a cleaner such as the EnviroCare Tough All Purpose Degreaser and Cleaner requires only one ounce of the concentrate cleaner (that is just a shot glass) for a full quart of ready to use cleaner!
That’s all. Many commonly think that if this works, then let me add more concentrate when diluting. Not necessary! It is myth that more is better.
